Teaching Philosophy

I believe that all students should feel supported and confident in their life's endeavors. Whether they are in the classroom, on the field, on a stage, studying for an exam or preparing for college. As I went through school, I was given unconditional support by those around me, which has undoubtedly shaped who I am today. I know first hand that having someone to believe in you is incredibly crucial to a student's life. I hope to craft a classroom where all students feel not only supported, but also confident in their learning environment. Mathematics can be a frustrating topic, so if I can encourage my students to persevere through this course, then I know they are better prepared for their future endeavors.

In my classroom, I believe that students should have access to a variety of learning methods. I present them with multiple representations of the same topic, then allow them to make up their mind as to which best suits them. As seen through my student teaching, all my students are perfectly capable, some just need more support than others. I am dedicated to working with those students to ensure they feel supported and confident with their academic environment. For students who are English Learners, I ensure that lessons include various methods of comprehensible input. I have information presented orally, in writing on their worksheets, by using colors to highlight important information, making graphic organizers to compare and contrast data, collaborative group work to hear and share thoughts, presentations, exploration of phenomena and performing experiments.
